What is the Feast of Trumpets?
The Feast of Trumpets, known as Yom Teruah in Hebrew, literally means the "Day for Blowing Trumpets." Celebrated on the first day of the seventh month of the Biblical calendar, it is one of God's appointed yearly Sabbaths—a day of rest and celebration. The central theme of this day is repentance, known as teshuvah, or returning to God.
On the day of Trumpets, Christians are called to repentance through worship, prayer, and the blowing of the shofar. This festival begins the “Ten Days of Awe” leading up to the Day of Atonement, a period for seeking God's grace and repentance of sins. The Feast of Trumpets reminds Christians of Jesus' call to repentance and His mercy.
