Our beliefs define those unique and specific thoughts that describe God, humanity, and their relationship to one another in ways consistent with God’s self-revelation. The purpose of defining our beliefs is to identify and explain the truths unique to faith in the God revealed in the Hebrew/Christian Bible, and His Son Jesus Christ, and how these truths impact our relationship with God and others, and our personal and corporate identity and destiny.
The Scriptures
We believe the Scriptures are the inspired Word of God, without error in the original writings. The Scriptures are infallible, inerrant, sufficient and the sole and final authority for all matters of faith and conduct. No other writings can claim divine inspiration or authority. We also believe God’s Word in its entirety is both relevant and applicable in the lives of believers.
God
We believe in one God, revealed as the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Jesus Christ
We believe in Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, the only begotten Son of God and Creator of the universe. We believe in His deity and eternality; in His virgin birth; in His sinless life; in His miracles; in His vicarious and atoning death on Calvary; in His bodily resurrection; in His ascension to the right hand of God in heaven; in His ministry as our High Priest and Mediator; and in His personal return in power and glory. We believe Jesus Christ is the way, the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father except through Him.
Man’s Condition
Man is a created being, made in the likeness and image of God. Through Adam’s transgression and fall, sin came into the world and all men, because of sin, have been condemned to eternal death. We believe in the creation, test, and fall of man as recorded in Genesis, his total spiritual depravity, his inability to attain to divine righteousness, and his eternal judgment.
Man’s Conversion (Justification)
We believe salvation is a free gift from God given to those who respond to His call by: repenting from sin; receiving by grace through faith the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior; and accepting His precious blood as payment for their sin. At this time we are justified, meaning: our sins are forgiven and we receive His full pardon; we are reconciled to God and no longer His enemy; we become members of Christ’s body; and we receive the promise of eternal life. Salvation is given freely to man, separate from works and the law, and is made operative by grace through faith in Jesus Christ.
Water Baptism
We believe in the necessity of water baptism by immersion in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit into Jesus Christ.
The Holy Spirit
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the personal revelation of the Father and Son. We believe the Holy Spirit is a gift of God’s gracious love and is the power and presence of the living God to empower believers to live in the fullness of God’s Word, character, and purpose.
Sanctification
We believe God has called us to a life of separation from sin, the world, and Satan, and has empowered us to live such a life through the infilling of the Holy Spirit. We believe sanctification as a definite, yet progressive work of grace, commencing at the time of conversion and continuing until the fullness of salvation is received at Christ’s second coming.
The Community of Believers
We believe the church is the covenant community of God, made up of those who, like Abraham, have faith in God and His Son, Jesus Christ. Jew and Gentile both have access into relationship with God by grace through faith, and are heirs of the blessings of Abraham, and His Seed, Jesus Christ. The church, then, are all those throughout the world and the ages who have relationship with God through Jesus Christ. Each local congregation is a living body of believers having a relationship with God, each other, and other local bodies.
Resurrection & Judgment
We believe in the personal return, in power and glory, of Jesus Christ to judge the living and the dead. We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost—they that are saved unto the resurrection of life, and they that are lost to the resurrection of damnation.
